What’s your favourite city in the world?

Basseterre, Nevis

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Climb Nevis Peak. On a clear day you'll enjoy views to neighbouring Caribbean islands including St Kitts and Antigua.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Salt fish and johnny cakes are a staple on the island - a salted white fish flaked and stuffed inside a savory doughnut with a mouthwatering chili sauce. It's divine!

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Chicago

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Do visit Pilsen! Coined by Forbes as one of the top 10 coolest neighborhoods in the world, Pilsen is home to one of the most diverse communities in Chicago. Random colorful street art, frequent music festivals, great restaurants and awesome bars serving local craft beers contribute to making this area one of the best place to be in the United States.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Maxwell Street polish, and Chicago's signature deep dish pizza.

Chicago

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? All the famous cities have observatory in high rise buildings from where you can enjoy the view of the city. But Chicago has something outside the box. The 360 Chicago (John Hancock Tower) offers observatory as well as TILT feature. TILT is huge window where you stand and it will TILT outward over 1000 feet abow the MAGNIFICENT MILE. It is thrilling experience and you should not miss it.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? You are in Chicago and miss to try chicago style pizza, that’s not fair. I will highly recommend to try chicago style deep dish pizza. But let me warn you it’s feeding and I don’t think you can eat more than two piece.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Grand Marias, Minnesota

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? This northern Minnesota town attracts a ton of visitors each year, but doesn’t feel like a tourist town. It has the perfect balance of shopping but keeps the hometown feel. The town is popular with backpackers, canoers and anglers. My favorite thing to do is stroll the shoreline at Artist Point. The natural rock wall provides some great tide pools. You can walk along the breakwater, get next to the lighthouse, and watch the sailboats come in. However, I don’t recommend this on a stormy day.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Stop at the Worlds Best Donuts and get one of their cinnamon sugar cake donuts. Trust me!

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? A narrow valley lined with colorful houses, connected by winding stairwells, tunnels, and alleyways, Guanajuato is a maze of treasures. Visit Diego Rivera’s childhood home, opulent churches, ornate theaters, and metropolis-like mines have collectively put the city on the UNESCO map, while the University of Guanajuato and October’s Cervantino Arts Festival keep it young and lively.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Halifax (Nova Scotia)

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is a fascinating tourism attraction. It tells the story of immigration to Canada through the Port of Halifax and tells some touching stories. Those include how thousands of women moved to Canada after the world wars, to marry men they had met during active service in Europe.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? The seafood of Atlantic Canada is outstanding. If visitors to Halifax and elsewhere in Nova Scotia are looking only for a snack that reflects the cuisine and produce of the region they should consider ordering a lobster roll or a bowl of chowder. For dinner I would recommend ordering a lobster at least once during a trip.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Havana, Cuba (La Habana)

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? La Habana is a fascinating city where the past and present coexist. In order to experience the colors, music, and flavors of La Habana you must first start in Habana Vieja. Walk the four principal squares, dance to the best live music on Obispo Street, refuel with a refreshing Cuban mojito, and head towards the Capitol building and the Grand Theatre for an appropriate finale to an unforgettable day, a classic convertible car ride along the famous Malecón.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? You have not experienced La Habana without having Cuban rum, a cigar, and coffee. These make up the trinity of Cuban flavors. I would suggest starting your day with a Cuban coffee at Cafe Escorial in the Old Square. Then, it is time for Cuban cocktails. I would suggest a stroll along Obispo Street for a mojito at the Ambos Mundos Hotel's terrace and continue to La Flordita for a daiquiri. The best place to enjoy a Cuban cigar and a sunset in Havana is on the terrace of the iconic Nacional Hotel. The creme de la creme of Cuban cigars is the Cohiba. Treat yourself!

Head over to Vicious Cycle, rent a mountain bike, and enjoy the incredible bike trails that wind into and around the city of Jasper. Even if you never mountain bike, there are plenty of flat, easy sections of trail that run right alongside the stunning Athabasca River.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? We love Jasper Brewing Company. After a day of cycling Jasper's picturesque bike trails a cold local microbrew will hit the spot. Their food is also top notch, with unusual regional fare like the Elk Carpaccio (it's DELICIOUS).

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Juneau, Alaska

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Ride on the Mount Roberts Tramway. The views are INSANE. Tickets are $34, so come ready to hike a trail and get your money’s worth. After your hike, enjoy a meal at Timberline Bar & Grill. Tram tickets give you ALL day access. I would love to catch a sunset here one day!

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? My favorite Juneau restaurant is Twisted Fish Company. From the spacious interior, to the essence of class, this place will give you goosebumps. THE GOOD KIND. We tried the market price crab legs and twisted pasta caesar salad. Both were phenomenal. This place is a MUST.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Kalamazoo

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Hydrate! This is a town that is both a craft beer haven (Bell's Brewery is the most popular) and a coffee hotspot - there is a plethora of excellent coffee shops in town, as well as several extraordinary roasters. It's hard to pick a favorite.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Beer and coffee! If you're also hungry, bbq is a must-try, both at Arcadia Ales (with their own smokehouse on site producing the most exquisite meats) and Kelvin and Company, which has 2 locations and is a perennial winner at rib competitions.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

La Paz, Mexico

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? La Paz is a quaint Mexican city in Baja California, a paradise for outdoor activities as well as a fantastic place to dwell into Mexican traditions. However, if you have to choose one thing to do in La Paz, Mexico, make sure to snorkel with whales sharks. Indeed, the Sea of Cortez is famous for the gentle beasts, considered the largest fish in the world. Swimming alongside a whale shark, while its mouth is wide open feeding on plankton is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Thanks to the proximity of the Sea of Cortez, seafood is a must-try while in La Paz. Enjoy lobster and shrimps, fresh from the morning catch. And don’t leave before tasting the local chocolate clams, a La Paz delicacy, sold by the local fishermen in the streets. To wash it down, finish your evening with mezcal tasting in one of the local bars.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Louisville, Kentucky, USA (my home town!)

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Visit a bourbon distillery! Hello, you're in the world capital of bourbon. There are several bourbon distilleries in downtown Louisville, including Angel's Envy and Rabbit Hole. Or, take a scenic day trip to Maker's Mark or Woodford Reserve! Even if you don't drink bourbon, go for the smells (bourbon distilleries smell like fresh baked bread and wood) and the free chocolate bourbon balls.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Obviously, bourbon is a given: try it in all forms, Old Fashioned and Mint Julep and bourbon ball and so on. Also try Derby Pie: it's like pecan pie, but with a layer of gooey, melty chocolate. Another famous Louisville food is the Hot Brown: it's basically a melty open-faced turkey sandwich covered in Béchamel sauce, and it's HEAVEN. Try it at the Brown Hotel, where it was invented. Also, by the way, we invented pulled pork too. You're welcome!

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Mexico City

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Hit Centro Historico. You can marvel at all of the incredible colonial architecture that fills the city center with its ornate decorations and embellisments. There are literally hundreds of museums to check out on everything from anthropology to Mexico’s most celebrated artist, Frida Kahlo. And you can even see the ancient Aztec ruins that Mexico City was built on top of, on display right in the city center.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Tacos al Pastor are an absolute must when you visit Mexico City. Delicious slices of marinated, spit grilled pork are topped with a slice of caramelized pineapple before being garnished with onions, cilantro and a spicy salsa. It’s all served in a warm, soft corn tortilla and is the taste of Mexico City.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

MinneapoIis

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? In the winter, you should walk around the Downtown Skyway. All of the buildings in the downtown area are connected on the 2nd floor and you never have to go outside to cover over 20 blocks. You literally could live, eat, work, go to the movies, do your laundry, and anything else without going outside. In the summer, check out Minnehaha Falls and the The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? The signature food item in Minneapolis is the Juicy Lucy. It is two hamburger patties with cheese melted in the middle. You have to let it cool down as the cheese is liquid and can burn your mouth!

New York

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Explore the city along the 7 train, which runs between Midtown Manhattan and Flushing, Queens. It's often referred to as the "international express" for many reasons. You can explore the flavors of Latin America and Asia more extensively than in any other part of the city in Jackson Heights and Flushing. Two of New York's most beautiful parks (Gantry Plaza and Flushing Meadows-Corona) are also near 7 train stops. If you really feel the need to visit Times Square, the 7 train stops there as well.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

New York

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? To truly appreciate the magnitude of New York City and its surrounding boroughs is to see it from above. You get a true appreciation of its diverse neighborhoods and the beauty of the towns architecture. There are many skyscrapers in which to do this, but my favorite way to appreciate the view is from Bar 65, located on the 65th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where one can take it all in with a drink in hand.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? When it comes to food, there are two food items that are a must eat while in New York City, and they are a Jewish deli sandwich, preferably pastrami from Katz's Deli; and a true New York style pizza by the slice at Joe's Pizza on Bleecker Street. There are sandwiches and pizzas all over the world, but these are taste profiles that originate from some of the original immigrants that built this town, and nothing compares.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

New York

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? New York has always been in everyone’s mind, whether for its history, being largely featured in the movie industry, considered the world’s capital and the city that dictates lifestyle and tendency. It has a plethora of attractions but for me the place to be as soon as you arrive is The Top of the Rock, the most emblematic NYC’s Observatory. Located in the heart of the city, it provides an obstructed 360 degrees view of Central Park and Manhattan’s midtown and downtown. The view is breathtaking and when you see the iconic Empire State Building and the innumerous skyscrapers you understand why New York is the greatest city in the world.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? I could answer that as well, but the only thing is that there isn't a typical food in NYC a part from the hot dog. However, locals love the halal food guys cart on the corner of 53rd Street and 6th Avenue.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

New York City

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Head to Bushwick (Brooklyn) to see the 10+ blocks of enormous colorful murals within the Bushwick Collective, an outdoor street art gallery. Within a 20-minute walk, you'll be able to savor bonbons in a raw chocolate factory (Fine & Raw), have a beer in a former 19th-centruy brewery (The Well), shop skincare made from Haitian farm-sourced ingredients (Papa Rozier Farms), and simply explore the many independent shops, bars, bakeries, and the mix of hipster restaurants and authentic Latin eateries.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? The truth is, many locals don't eat the "iconic" hot dogs and pretzels from the street, though we do eat the pizza! You can have a brick oven slice at Grimaldi's, a hipster pie from Roberta's, a Sicilian slice paired with homemade spumoni at L&B Spumoni Gardens or a humongous slice topped with spinach artichoke dip at Artichoke Pizza -- just a few of my local favorites! What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? Stroll, cycle, paddle or skate along the Rideau Canal (from spring through fall, you can also travel by solar-powered tour boat). Not only is this 19th-century canal a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it also winds through the heart of the city and takes you close to so many great sites, including Parliament Hill, the National Arts Centre, the Rideau Centre, TD Place and Dows Lake. Try it during the Winterlude festival or the Canadian Tulip Festival for the ultimate experience!

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? BeaverTails, a flat, deep-fried pastry invented in the nearby Ottawa Valley, is the favorite snack of canal skaters. Quebec has had a great influence on local cuisine; try poutine, Montreal-style bagels or smoked meat. Eastern Ontario has lots of craft breweries, wineries and distilleries; try a Beau's Lug-Tread Ale and you'll be sipping like a local.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Quebec City

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? The number ONE thing to do in Quebec City is to take your time to walk through the historic parts of the upper and lower city. Don't just go to the highlights like the Chateau Frontenac, the Place d'Armes and the Terrasse Dufferin or the Rue Notre Dame. The little side alleys are also worth a visit and show the historic flair of Canadas first city even more - and usually without the constant stream of tourists from all over the world.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? There are quite a few restaurants in Quebec City, that serve the traditional cuisine of the French pioneers. This consists usually of quite hearty recipes, that the early settlers brought with them from France and adapted to what ingredients they found in Canada. A good restaurant, where you can try it, is one of my favorites in Quebec City: Aux Anciens Canadiens in the rue St. Louis. You usually have to make reservations to get a seat.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Salt Lake City, Utah

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? You can't say that you've been to Salt Lake City until you have visited Temple Square. Salt Lake City was founded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and while Salt Lake City is more diverse today than many people might expect, the Church is still an important part of the local culture. Next, head for the mountains! There are few major cities with such easy access to hiking trails and ski resorts. Ensign Peak is a short hike, not far from the Utah State Capitol Building. It offers fantastic views of Salt Lake City.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Fry sauce and "dirty" sodas. Utahns love a good burger and fries, and they often dip those fries in a concoction simply known as fry sauce. It's basically ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together, but some local restaurants have their own variations and secret recipes. Look for a good burger and fries, with fry sauce, at Hires Big H, Crown Burger or Tonyburgers. Soda shops featuring "dirty" sodas and oversized soft sugar cookies have popped up all over Salt Lake City in recent years. A "dirty" soda is like Vanilla Coke on steroids. One recipe is Dr. Pepper with raspberry puree, coconut syrup and cream. Or try Diet Coke with a shot of coconut syrup and a lime wedge. Soda shops like Swig or Fiiz offer dozens of flavor combinations, or your own creations.

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? San Diego was our favorite home city; particularly its crown jewel La Jolla. What’s your favourite city in the world?

Savannah

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? My favourite city in the world is Savannah in Georgia, Deep South USA. We lived there for three years so it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart. There is so much to do in historical city from museums, galleries and fabulous restaurants serving traditional southern cuisine through to ghost tours and river boat cruises. My absolute favourite way to spend the day is a self guided walking tour from the city market square along River Street watching the boats pass under the Savannah Bridge whilst enjoying a drink in the roof top bar, Rocks on the Roof. I would then walk all the way up Bull Street, stopping in the public squares and enjoying a coffee in one of the main quirky coffee shops before heading up to Forsyth Park. The best place to go for lunch is Mrs Wilkes Dining Room which serves amazing fried chicken and corn muffins, southern style!

Toronto

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? If it's summer, head down to the waterfront and hop the ferry to Centre Island, where they can rent bikes or wander around Centreville, a charming, small amusement park. If it's fall, hop the subway to High Park and take in the beautiful colours of the changing trees. If it's winter, head to City Hall, rent skates, and glide around under the glow of the city lights. If it's spring, head back to High Park and vie for a photo op with glorious cherry blossoms. You may need to get your elbows up as the Instagrammers are omnipresent!

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Toronto

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? I’m going to have to be honest. Finding a favourite city is like choosing a favourite food or choosing a favourite song. Its no different than asking me what’s my favourite beer... Well I do know for a fact that Guinness is up there but do I choose a favourite city? No matter where I go I try to find the beauty in every town, city or country I visit. No matter how strange the custom, how weird the food or how different the music. Everything and everyone, for the most part is beautiful. So when tasked with finding a favourite city I simply return to the city I was born in, Toronto, Canada.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? Toronto is very multicultural so to pin point a restaurant that you must eat in is hard. And since I live in the downtown cores Entertainment District , finding the best bar is impossible. What I will say is Toronto is know for its distinctive neighbours and I must visit in my local opinion is the always eclectic Kensington Market. Nothing is cookie cut and there is one of everything. Vintage clothes, food, cheese, fish markets, hand crafted goods, real coffee shops, it’s own brewery, the list goes on. Plenty of food choices from several cultures side by side as well as fusion style restaurants.

What’s your favourite city in the world?

Vancouver, BC

What’s the number ONE thing you recommend people do when they get there and why? My favorite big city in the world would have to be Vancouver, BC. Sitting on the west coast of Canada and flanked by the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver is truly an international city. From amazing restaurants and great nightlife to the longest uninterrupted waterfront path in the world (28 kilometers), Vancouver also has tons to do both in and around the city. If you head to Vancouver, going for a bike ride or walk through Stanley Park is a must. With giant red cedars, maple trees and Douglas firs plus gorgeous views of the ocean along the Seawall you would never know you were in a city of millions.

What local food and drink do people HAVE to try there? To get the best of what Vancouver's food scene has to offer, take a Granville Island Market Tour, and you'll leave stuffed with gourmet coffee, homemade bread, artisan cheeses, fresh local apples, Chai tea, homemade donuts and so much more!
