Following the Maya Path: Copan Ruins

Day 1
The tour begins with a visit to Ceren jewel, also called Pompeii of America. It is the only Mayan village in the world and was preserved by layers of ash from the explosion of a nearby volcano and discovered by accident in 1977 and opened to the public almost 12 years later, once the civil war stopped. San Andres, the southernmost Mayan city, is a ceremonial centre that is part of the jewel of Ceren with its own museum. Arrival during the afternoon to the city of Copan, accommodation at the Plaza Copan hotel or similar. Explore this charming city on your own, visit the city museum, have a drink in one of the many tropical bars.

Day 2
After breakfast, your guide will take you to the ruins of Copán. The city developed a distinctive sculptural style within the tradition of the Maya lowlands. The site of Copan is known for a series of starry portraits, most of which were placed along processions in the central square of the city and the adjoining acropolis, a large complex of rooms - pyramids, plazas, and palaces. The site has a large court to play the Mesoamerican ball game. In parallel buildings that frame a carefully dimensioned rectangle is the court. Return at 1:00 PM, arrival at your hotel approximately 5:00 PM.
