Detailed Description
Your guide will meet you at the Plaza de Sant Francesc to take you walking through the streets of the neighbourhoods of Palma and learn about the origin of the “Ruta Martiana”.
The Ruta Martiana tapas tradition firstly originated when the people of Mallorca were suffering financial difficulties, due to Spain’s financial crisis (La Crisis). The local bar owners decided to come together to develop an idea to boost their business. The concept was to offer cheap priced drinks, which are accompanied by an order of tapas. Sounds simple, right? Well at this point, they had no idea it would be such a hit!
To this day, the tradition continues on Tuesday evenings, and you can still experience the hustle and bustle in these popular bars, which were once practically deserted! You can experience this tradition with us on alternative days as it has become so popular with the locals!
Along the evening you will walk around the streets and go to different bars to share with the locals and have an authentic Mallorcan experience. You will be introduced to pinchos and delicious tapas. he pinchos and tapas are made fresh all night and accompanied by a refreshing beer or a succulent glass of Spanish wine.
Although the food on this tour is sure to get your taste buds tingling, you will discover that this is not just about eating and drinking! This is one of the most deep-rooted social events in Mallorquin culture. This means that it is a symbol of getting together with family or friends and enjoying each other’s company, whilst visiting typical Mallorquin tapas bars and tasting new and delicious delicacy’s, together!
