Detailed Description

Departing from the Columba Hotel you will travel into the West Highlands of Scotland, so steeped in history, myth, and legend in this 8 hour tour in the comfort of an 8-seater vehicle.

You will travel along Loch Ness side to take in the fantastic view of the formidable Urquhart Castle, then you will continue to Invermoriston, and learn the mysteries of St Columba's Well. After that, you will wander along the lock gates of the Caledonian Canal, the 19th century feat of engineering built by Scotland’s most prolific civil engineer, Thomas Telford, “the colossus of the roads”. At the mouth of the Canal, admire the view of the entirety of Loch Ness, and marvel in its vastness.

Your journey will continue to the Commando Memorial, unveiled in 1952, in remembrance of those who have served in the British Commandos regiment, before and since. From here, there are spectacular views of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the United Kingdom.

After lunch you will visit the scene of the Battle of Culloden and last but not least, the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which stands about 100ft (30m) high and spans approximately 1000ft (304m) and is a well-known television and film location, appearing in The Ring of Bright Water, Stone of Destiny and Monarch of the Glen. Of course, the Glenfinnan Viaduct also doubles as the “Bridge to Hogwarts” in the Harry Potter movies, where the Hogwarts Express (the Jacobite Steam Train) delivers would-be wizards and witches to school for their studies in magic. You will return to the Columba Hotel at the end of the tour.

Note: Glenfinnan & the Great Glen Tour runs from 1st March 2018 to 31st October 2018.
