Detailed Description

This 2.45 hours tasting tour will start and end at Downtown Montreal, here your guide will tell the story of the arrival of these groups of immigrants, their roots, and the communities they formed in Montreal. First you will learn about the traditional foods and recipes they brought with them to Canada, and others that were created here in Quebec crossing cultures.

Along the tour you will visit landmarks, ethnic grocers, delis, specialty shops, lunch counters, restaurants, cafes, and marketplaces, all with their own unique stories that will be recounted by your guide.

Of course, the best way to learn is to taste, in the Chinatown you will visit a historic factory still producing fortune cookies and noodles, and a local tea shop with a truly impressive selection of blooming teas. A few blocks away we arrive in the former Red Light district and stop at a 100 year old former pool hall to try some Quebecois poutine.

After a short bus ride, you will arrive in the former Jewish Quarter for the main event of the tour a smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz's deli. This area of the Plateau neighborhood blends into Little Portugal and we finish the tour with a cake of nata tart, near the former home of Montreal poet/songwriter Leonard Cohen in Downtown.
