Excursion to Villa de Morella

We will meet in the morning in front of the well known Torres de Serrano, where our guide will be waiting for us to travel by car to the famous medieval city of Valencia, Villa de Morella. This city gave it a great economic and cultural splendor of which are spectacular Gothic buildings.

We started on the outskirts of the city, contemplating the excellent Gothic aqueducts of Santa Lucía and La Pedrera, then heading to the San Miguel Towers of the 14th and 15th centuries, the main entrance to the city. Once inside the old town, we will take the main street, passing through the Gothic style consistorial house with Renaissance additions, arriving at the street Blasco de Alagón with its characteristic arcades where the old market was also located.

Continue to the Plaza del Estudio where we will see old houses with wooden trusses, and next to it the Portal del Rey. From this point, we will begin the ascent to the Plaza Arciprestral where the Basilica of Santa María is located, which, with its characteristic museum, is one of the jewels of Valencian Gothic. Following the Calle del Hospital, we enter through the main gate to Morella Castle, where we can visit the Convent of San Francisco with its characteristic chapter house that houses a curiosity of the time, a dance of death, a very characteristic painting that allows us to get an idea of ​​the culture and traditions of the people of the Late Middle Ages.

Next, we enter the castle proper, which, built on top of the town on a molar, is a fortification of Islamic origins with subsequent reforms of medieval architecture. Once seen this set, we will start our way back to the starting point crossing other emblematic areas of the town such as the Jewish Quarter, the Ciurana House, the Porta de Sant Mateu or the different watchtowers that surround the city. At the end of the tour, we will return to our meeting point in the Torres de Serranos.
