Detailed Description

You will start at 10:30 AM at the Dursey cable car station. Then, you will go up to Garnish Point where you will enjoy the panoramic views of the island of Dursey and the Skellig Islands. Following the road to Garnish harbor, you will learn about the history of mackerel fishing that was particularly important during the world wars. At the protected beach you will take a short break for lunch and you will also have time to explore the beach at your own pace.

Afterwards, you will walk through a narrow boreen, and then cross the main road to Reen and Cow Head, a whale and dolphin watching area, passing Penny Durell's house, who wrote about the history and legends of Dursey, Bull, Cow , Calf and Heifer Rock Islands. Next, you'll walk to Calf Rock, where an old cast iron beacon was knocked down by a storm in 1881, and the lighthouse keepers had to take refuge in the houses for six days.

In the south, in May and June, you can see peregrine sharks, with many seabirds, watching the signal towers at Dursey and Black Ball Head. You will also visit a watchtower of the Second World War and Firkeel, another place of fishing and salting, before continuing with the main road.

You will arrive at the Dursey Diner which is on the side of the road for tea. The final point will be in Garnish where you can also visit and take a bath depending on the weather.
