Birding on the Rio Huitzilapan & La Antigua Tour

You will be picked up at your hotel in Veracruz for a short 30 minute early morning trip to the river where you will board a small launch with your local professional bilingual guide. During the next 2 or 3 hours you will reduce the speed of flotation downstream to the Gulf of Mexico and will return while observing the numerous birds that are found along the banks of the rivers, in the air, in the trees and near the ocean . With a bird watching guide in hand, your local guide will tell you the pictures of the birds you are watching.

On this tour you will see parrots, kingfishers, black skimmers, pink spatula, Mexican bug, bumblebee, black-headed trogons and common shorebirds, to name a few.

Then, you will have breakfast at a local restaurant and then take a tour of the city of La Antigua. In 1519, Hernán Cortéz and his Spanish conquistadors disembarked here and built the first coastal municipality and one of the first Catholic churches on the North American continent. You can visit this church and the remains of the customs house of the early sixteenth century. You will also have the opportunity to visit the small market of the city. Later in the afternoon, you will be driven back to your hotel.
