Detailed Description

You will start at 10:00 AM in the parking lots of the Derrynane House. Next, you will do this tour with a visit to the Staigue Fort, an impressive stone monument dating from 600 BC at the head of the river valley on the land of the city of Castlecove. Then, we joined the old local butter road, a track used to transport butter from the local farms for the exchange of cork butter in Cork, where it is traded for export around the world.

You will pass the ruins of Kilrohane and Coad Graveyard, where you will see many tombstones in an old cemetery and as you go along this road you will be able to admire the beautiful views of Kenmare Bay, Derrynane Bay and the islands in the bay. When you get to Caherdaniel there is an opportunity to have some local refreshments and take a break.

You will continue to the Derrynane beach, where you can see and learn from the many varieties of seaweed that can be gathered for use in the daily kitchen. Finishing with a visit to the tide of the Antigua Abadía de San Finán that allows the tomb of Daniel O'Connell's wife. A short walk from Derrynane House and Gardens, which was the home of Daniel O'Connell, now our smallest national park. Here you can take off your boots and enjoy a welcome cup of tea at the Café.
